The word robot has a lot of meanings.
It can refer to a software that looks for web pages.
It can refer to remote control machines that try to hurt and distroy other remote control machines.
It can mean machines that are giant mechanical arms that weld and paint cars and stack pallets, and the like.
It can mean humanoid-like machines.
It can mean machine components added to living beings, aka cybernetic, borg or bionic.
It can mean autonomous machines with wheels.
It can mean autonomous machines with legs.
My hobby has most to do with the last two - autonomous machines that are meant to solve problems.
But when I talk to most people, the first things they think of is the TV shows where fancy remote controlled cars try to distroy and avoid being distroyed.
It seems to me it might be nice to have well defined names for different type of robots. Mostly I would like to have a name for the smart, primarily non-distructive, hobby robots I work on. My suggestion: robotons.
Thus the name of this blog: roboton. It can be interpreted as Robot Town - or as Robot Autonomous.
There are some competitions of hobby, or semi-pro robots that are have a distructive bias, so maybe I shouldn't cut them all out.
I prefer the challenges of a robot that has to solve a problem on it's own - not being just remote controlled machines.
