Robot cleans pool without poles, hoses

Another unique feature is a diagnostic computer chip that allows the machine to measure the length, width and shape of the pool — as well as how dirty it is.

Once that's done, it creates a program based on that information to clean that specific pool. "It can't miss any spot because the machine knows what pool it's in," he says.

Two models are available, the Bravo, which costs $2,000 or the Viva, which costs about $2,400 and comes with a hand-held remote control that allows for spot cleaning.

DARC Meeting - FIRST Robot

I attended the monthly meeting of DARC - Denver Area Robot Club - this past Saturday.

The meeting was well attended - there were more people than average. A lot of people came to see the special demo of the local FIRST robot. Built and run by a local high school team. The high schoolers did the real work - the teacher really kept to his advisor role, letting the kids do the work. And they took 3rd place!

The FIRST robot was quite impressive. It was rather peppy. It was very interesting to hear about the robot and the adventure involved with building and running it. 2 of the core of the high schoolers came to demo the robot along with their teacher/advisor.

Also Kerwin showed off his boat-bot to be, and the modifications his Mars rover has been given.

A pneumatic walking robot, under prototype, was shown. Some very nice work going on there.
